Net metering is a billing system where utility companies credit customers for excess electricity generated by their solar panels, allowing them to offset grid energy costs. Without net metering, homeowners often face high costs for battery storage to save surplus solar power. By feeding this energy back to the grid, customers receive bill credits, making solar more affordable and accessible. Net metering plays a vital role in promoting renewable energy, enhancing grid stability, and supporting a cleaner energy future. Learn more about net metering policies in your state on the DSIRE website.
